WhatsApp Setup

This guide covers everything you need to connect your WhatsApp Business account to WazBot, including Meta Business verification, phone number registration, and webhook configuration.

Prerequisites

  • A Meta Business Account (verified or unverified)
  • A phone number that can receive SMS or voice calls for verification
  • Admin access to your WazBot dashboard
Business Verification
While you can start testing immediately, Meta requires Business Verification to send messages to more than 250 unique contacts per day. We recommend starting the verification process early.

Connection Methods

WazBot supports two ways to connect WhatsApp:

Method 1: Embedded Signup (Recommended)

  1. Navigate to Settings → WhatsApp in your WazBot dashboard.
  2. Click Connect WhatsApp.
  3. A Meta popup will appear. Log in with your Facebook account.
  4. Select or create a Meta Business Account.
  5. Choose an existing WhatsApp Business Account or create a new one.
  6. Register your phone number and verify it via SMS or voice call.
  7. Grant WazBot the required permissions.

Method 2: Manual API Setup

For advanced setups, you can provide your own WhatsApp Business API credentials:

  1. Go to Settings → WhatsApp → Advanced.
  2. Enter your Phone Number ID, WhatsApp Business Account ID, and Permanent Access Token.
  3. Configure the webhook URL in your Meta App settings.

Phone Number Configuration

Display Name

Your WhatsApp display name must match your business name and comply with Meta's naming guidelines (see Meta Business Help Center). Changes to the display name require re-approval (usually 24–48 hours).

Profile Picture & About

Set these in Settings → WhatsApp → Profile. Recommended image size is 640×640 pixels. The “About” text appears in the WhatsApp contact info screen.

Message Templates

WhatsApp requires pre-approved message templates for initiating conversations (outbound messages). WazBot provides a template editor:

  1. Go to Templates → New Template.
  2. Choose a category: Marketing, Utility, or Authentication.
  3. Write your template with optional variables ({{1}}, {{2}}, etc.).
  4. Submit for Meta review (typically approved within minutes).

Testing Your Connection

  1. After connecting, send a test message to your WhatsApp number from a personal phone.
  2. Check the Conversations tab in the dashboard to see the incoming message.
  3. If an agent is active, verify the bot responds automatically.
Sandbox Mode
Before going live, you can test with up to 5 phone numbers in sandbox mode without Business Verification.
